Australia has been jolted by the shocking news of the death and injury of many people in a senseless mass shooting aimed at the Jewish community yesterday evening at Bondi Beach.

As details continue to emerge, we are horrified by the level of violence and the enormous loss of life and serious injuries sustained by the innocent victims of this outrage. We are sure most Australians will be feeling the same way.

At this stage we are unaware of any NAPP members or family who may have been affected by this incident, but as some of our members are from the Sydney Eastern Suburbs Jewish communities, we are closely exploring this possibility.

This is a moment that will evoke grief, anger and deep distress for many. As a NAPP community, we are strongest when we respond with calm, compassion and unity, supporting one another and those directly affected. As practical steps we encourage NAPP members to reach out and offer support and love to members of the Jewish community and for members in NSW to consider making a Red Cross blood donation to help with the care of the injured.

We support our Jewish brothers and sisters at this intensely sad time. We stand against all forms of antisemitism. We demand all Australian governments eradicate antisemitism in all corners of our nation as a matter of urgency. We deplore all who espouse hatred and violence, and we cherish those who provide security, care and love for others.

Over the coming days and weeks, we must stand together in the face of this national tragedy.
